Working and playing with cameras has brought me life-long pleasure. Using
photography, I communicate ideas, preserve memories, explore the known and unknown.
I have a background in art and math/science. I work as a photographic artist and as a
commercial photographer. I began in photography with film almost 40 years ago and my
transition to digital happened in early 2000s. The cameras that I use (including 35mm,
medium format and 4×5) are a blend of both technologies. I have always processed and
printed my own work. I photograph to make myself happy and print to produce images I
can look at over and over again.
Current subject matter includes studio still lives in the manner of Netherlandish-style
painting. Other portfolios I have created include macro botanical portraits of flowers,
studies of waves, and a collection of grain elevators from Southern Minnesota and
Northern Iowa. Come visit to see seeds of other projects.
My studio reflects a running battle against clutter/collections, photography/art books,
paraphernalia/tools to create images. My inspirations are many.
The photo above is a self-portrait in bark from an eucalyptus tree.
