Friends Of the Great Swamp
The Great Swamp, to which the FrOGS organization is dedicated to the preservation, education and enjoyment of same, covers a huge swath in eastern Dutchess County, and has numerous access points amenable for plein air artists. See this map for the location of Great Swamp sites. Any Great Swamp sites are considered ‘within the boundaries’ for this event, even if they are physically not within the official boundaries.

Great Swamp sites that are accessible:
Patterson Put-In



Slocum Mostachetti Preserve in Wingdale –
Has trail system offering a variety of meadow, woodland, wetland and river edge habitats, showing rich ecology of the north flow of the Great Swamp.


Hardej Preserve in Holmes –
Wildlife rich beaver pond next to rail trail
Convenient access – paved.

Private property sites, by permission only:
Whlle Pawling is loaded with street scenes, parks and greens, a farmers market (on Saturdays!), quaint houses, and old industrial buildings, any of which could be painted for this event, the owners of two estates atop the historic Quaker Hill have given us special permission to paint on their properties on June 28. These are listed immediately below, with photos, and have asked we limit the number of artists. If you would like to paint at one of these spots, please specify which one you prefer on your registration page. The first ‘X’ number of artists to sign up for each location will be allowed to paint there.

Lakeside Park (no limit on how many artists may set up there. This is where canvas-stamping and reception/auction will be held.
