Tilly Strauss

I am an artist who plays most of the time in acrylic paint, because it is fast drying, easily edited, and easy to clean up. My greatest satisfaction is having returned to my Hudson valley farm where I help my dad make maple syrup and work part time as the Town Clerk.

I live in the woods and am a tree hugger. Each tree is unique. I love the smell of the leafy forest undergrowth and the sight of birds in the glittery canopies. Representing the trees feels urgent now because they are under threat. Responding to the winds, weather, mankind, and critter habitats, the trees have a lot to say about their own inner strength and their relationship to the planet. Lately have been pairing the small arboreal portraits with quotations and thoughts about trees written on the back side. These small paintings connect us to the natural world and to each other.

My work has graced the covers of regional magazines, such as the Valley Table and Dutchess Magazine and has been reviewed in newspapers ranging from the New York Times to the Barcelona Periodico. More about my work is at www.tillystudio.com
